Download Railroad Tycoon for free!

Some of you may remember Railroad Tycoon — an old DOS game released in 1990, which launched the “tycoon” genre.

Well, you can download it for free. Simply go to the Sid Meier’s Railroads website, go under “Downloads,” and it’s in there.

It comes preloaded with DOSBox, so you don’t have to install anything extra.

More Babelfish Fun

Yesterday, I posted about having fun with Babelfish. Well, if doing it once creates such a weird result, what happens if you do it 5 times, with different languages?

You probably won’t want to do it by hand, but this site automatically does it for you. Sometimes, however, it’s a bit slow.

I’ll try again with the same Tom Petty lyrics I used yesterday.

Fun with Babelfish

Probably everybody knows about Babelfish, once owned by Altavista but now by Yahoo!

Well, it’s actually quite terrible at translations. (I once translated an article from German, and it turned the word “revolver” into “to turn around!”)

But because of this, you can have some fun with it!

Just enter a sentence in proper grammar, translate to another language (I find the East Asian ones tend to have the funniest results — Japanese, Korean, etc), and translate that back to English.

NOTE: Sometimes you have to remove aphostrophies — I don’t know the proper spelling, but it means to change “she’s” to “she is”, or “can’t” to “cannot.”

Confused about time zones? Try FoxClocks.

When doing the math for timezones, I’m pretty good, but I get confused when one timezone is in AM and the other in PM.

However, I discovered an addon, FoxClocks, which can display whichever timezones you want! You can even set it to sync with a LAN server — if you’re using Firefox offline, for instance.

SmartRipper and ASPI Adapters

My friend recently asked me how to fix the “No ASPI Adapter Available” error in SmartRipper, a no-longer-updated DVD ripper (I mentioned it in an earlier blog post). I got the same error too — it is because ASPI is not installed in Windows XP.

Fortunatly, it can be easily fixed with ForceASPI. All you do is download it, run it, then reboot. And there’s your ASPI adapters.

Creating Icon Libraries

Recently, I downloaded some icons (*.ico files). However, they were a huge mess, so I decided to convert them to icon libraries (*.icl). An icon library is simply a bunch of icons in one file.

To compile them into libraries, I used IconShop (available here). All you do is run the program, drag and drop your icons into the program, and there you go.
